Since the National Cherry Festival was kicking off the same day as my weekly day off, I couldn't refuse to visit!
Michigan is known as the cherry capital of the world, so I had to do at least one tourist stop in Traverse City. My friend and colleague, Ntinyari, had decided to go with me as well, so I had great company while enjoying the festival.

Once arrived at the fair ground, we immediately started to head towards the booths where all of the farmers had set up. I had no idea that there were so many varieties of cherries! I noticed white, red, and dark red cherries. I was so interested in the different kinds that the farmers let us try all of them to see how they all tasted differently. Ntinyari and I immediately bought a basket and ate all of them while we were checking out more booths.
Another thing we noticed was how many music groups were performing around the fairgrounds. it was really cool to see local musicians perform and get to know them and their stories. One particular group was performing Swedish Folk music and were dressed up in traditional attire. It was so much fun to see other musicians having a blast at the celebration of the summer harvest.
Many steps and cherry pits later, we were exhausted and full from all of the sights around the city and the festival. I had an exciting time in TC, and I would love to come back to the festival!
